What does mixed media mean in a Starlite sculpture?

Each sculpture is made to reflect the artist’s original concept, with materials selected to add depth, movement, light and detail to the finished piece.
How are Starlite Originals sculptures made?
The process begins with an artist’s original sculpture, often modeled in clay. From there, molds and working models are created so individual parts of the sculpture can be cast, cleaned, assembled and hand-finished. Many pieces then go through additional finishing steps such as plating, patina work, polishing and Lucite encasement, depending on the design.
What is a patina?
A patina is a finish created through a chemical reaction with the metal surface, often using heat during the application process. Unlike paint, which sits on top of the surface, a patina becomes part of the metal finish itself. Patinas can create rich tones, highlights and color effects such as bronze, copper, black nickel, rose, turquoise or other artistic finishes.
What is Lucite?
Lucite is a clear, durable acrylic material often used in Starlite Originals sculptures to create the look of ice, water, crystal or open space. It can be polished for a transparent, glass-like appearance or finished with a softer frosted effect. Lucite also helps give many Starlite pieces their light-filled, dimensional quality.
Can I request a specific numbered sculpture from a limited edition?
Yes. When placing your order, you may request a specific edition number in the order comments. If that number is still available, we will do our best to provide it. If it has already been sold or reserved, the lowest available number in the edition will typically be shipped.
What is a certified limited edition sculpture?
A certified limited edition sculpture is produced in a set number of pieces. Many Starlite Originals limited editions include registration information or a certificate request card so the owner can register the sculpture. Registration may provide proof of ownership and help document the piece for collecting, appraisal or insurance purposes.
